Good lip treatment is invisible. The aim is lips that look like yours on a good day: a little more definition at the border, more even proportions between top and bottom, or the fullness that thins away gradually from the thirties onwards. It is one of the most requested treatments in the clinic and one of the most misunderstood, because the results people notice on others are the ones that have gone too far.
What changes with time
Lips lose volume and definition with age. The border between lip and skin, the vermilion border, flattens; the cupid’s bow softens; the lips themselves become thinner and the fine vertical lines around the mouth, where lipstick bleeds, deepen. Sun exposure and smoking speed this up. Some people simply have naturally thin or uneven lips and would like a little more balance.
What we do
Lip enhancement uses a soft hyaluronic acid filler placed in small amounts where it is needed: along the border for definition, in the body of the lip for fullness, or at the corners to lift a downturned mouth. The amount is usually under a millilitre, and the product contains local anaesthetic, so the treatment is comfortable and takes around twenty minutes. Results are immediate, although there is some swelling for a day or two that settles to the final shape.
For the fine lines around the mouth, a small amount of a very soft filler or a skin booster such as polynucleotides smooths the surface without adding volume to the lips themselves.
What a consultation involves
We will talk about what you like and do not like about your lips, look at their shape in relation to the rest of your face, and show you what a conservative treatment would change. We will also tell you if we think your lips are best left as they are. All treatment is carried out by trained clinicians after a medical history and a clear discussion of risks and aftercare.
